Israel Police arrested on Wednesday four individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Eilat.
The act of sexual violence against the young teen allegedly took place in a vacation apartment in the city, leading the girl to come to the police station on her own to file a complaint.
An investigation was launched and revealed that one of the suspects arrested was a soldier.
Sensitive case material
According to Israeli media, the case was held in a private hearing due to the sensitive nature of the case. A blanket gag order was put in place, prohibiting the publication of the names of those involved — both victim and suspects — and any further details of the incident.
It is unclear if the gag order will be lifted at any point.
Walla contacted defense attorneys for suspects who declined comments at this stage.
However, Attorney Assi Levy, who represents the soldier suspected of rape on behalf of the public defender's office, did comment. "This is a soldier with no criminal record. He denies the suspicions and gave a version of the sequence of events. We are waiting for the police to conclude the investigation as soon as possible."
The soldier’s detention has been extended until Sunday, with details unclear on the detention of the remaining suspects.
